Electrical Equipment Worker Supervisor (Electrical Equipment Worker Foreman - UNICOR)

The incumbent is primarily involved in work for the purpose of manufacturing electronic cables for various agencies of the federal government, including the military, by utilizing an all inmate work force. The incumbent is responsible for the technical and administrative supervision of an all inmate workforce accomplishing trades and labor work in the manufacture of a finished product according to the requirements of a production schedule. This requires skill and knowledge in supervising trades and craft work with a low skilled and very poorly motivated work force. The incumbent will train inmate workers in the manufacture of electrical equipment such as electrical cables, communications cables, auxiliary light kits, armored cable and other types of electrical assemblies. The incumbent assigns, directs and reviews the work of the inmates on the work crew. The incumbent must plan, schedule and coordinate work operations under the supervision of the Factory Manager, and solve work related problems in addition to determining the materials and equipment necessary to produce the final product. Additionally, the incumbent must be trained and become proficient in the use of the computer based enterprise resource planning (ERP) system. Along with all other correctional institution employees, incumbent is charged with responsibility for maintaining security of the institution. The staff correctional responsibilities precede all others required by this position and are performed on a regular and recurring basis. Applicants must have had sufficient training and experience to show their ability to perform the duties of the position. To qualify for this position, you MUST meet the Barely Acceptable level on both screen-out elements (Ability to supervise) and (Aptitude for work with prisoners); receive at least one half of the total possible points; AND you must furnish detailed information on your resume to support your assessment responses to demonstrate that you clearly possess the experience and skills to successfully perform the duties of this position at the journeyman level. Failure to specifically identify skills equivalent to a journeyman in this field may result in your score being lowered or in being found ineligible for this vacancy.
